Quick game ideas:

  • Read the riddle and let your child guess — give verbal clues like “It’s soft” or “It’s an animal.”

  • Make printable cards: riddle on one side, answer on the back (great for hiding the answer or turning into a matching game).

  • Use silly voices or sound effects for extra giggles.

Here are some fun and simple car games that keep little minds busy (without screens!):

🎵 1. Sing-Along Games

  • “Name That Tune”: Hum a song and see if your child can guess it.

  • Silly Songs: Take a familiar tune and change the words (“The Wheels on the Car go zoom zoom zoom”).

👀 2. I Spy

  • Classic game! Start with: “I spy with my little eye, something… red!”

  • Adjust difficulty: use colors, shapes, or first letters depending on your child’s level.

🚌 3. Car Bingo

  • Before the trip, make a simple bingo card with pictures of things your child might see (stop sign, dog, truck, airplane, cow).

  • They can cross off each one as they spot it.

🧠 4. Guessing Games

  • Animal Guessing: “I’m thinking of an animal that’s big, gray, and has a trunk.”

  • 20 Questions: Let your child ask yes/no questions until they guess what you’re thinking of.

🚦 5. Color Hunt

  • Pick a color and see who can spot the most things in that color outside the window.

😆 6. Would You Rather? (Silly Edition)

  • Example: “Would you rather eat ice cream for breakfast or pizza for dessert?”

  • Keep it fun and silly for lots of laughs.

🧸 7. Story Chain

🎲 Ways to Make It Extra Fun

  • Add motions or sound effects (roar like the dragon, hop like the bunny).

  • Draw as you go — doodle the story on paper while you tell it.

  • Pass an object to show whose turn it is to add to the story.

🖍️ 8. Travel Bag Surprises

  • Pack a small bag with a few surprises: stickers, crayons, little puzzles, or a new book.

  • Beware, my child doesn’t like surprises on road trips. He prefers to hand-pick what he’s playing with in the car.

One thing I’ve realized in the last year is that kids love to be silly! The imagination starts around two years old and kicks into silly around three years old. Now I have a four-year-old who loves making up stories, telling jokes, asking silly questions, and doing anything that makes himself or others laugh.

I challenge you to save these. Screenshot them, print them, put them into notes on your phone, and pull them out when your child is having a bad day. Share some laughs!
